Angie and Lenny have been married for four years. They wanted to have some excitement and fun before they made up their minds to have children and so they deliberately developed an extraordinarily dynamic social life.
The primary issue, it needs to be pointed out, is that just about everything they do with their family and friends is related to drinking. For instance, all of the sporting events, dinner engagements, family get-togethers, parties with friends, and happy hours they patronize have something to do with drinking.
If they were infrequent drinkers this wouldn't be a big issue. Since they drink in an excessive manner, nevertheless, they are beginning to take note of some definite alcohol-related difficulties in their lives.
For instance, just a week ago Lenny was arrested for his first DUI and has been ignoring responsibilities at work because of alcohol-related health problems. Not only this, but Lenny's last three performance reviews at work have been less than passable and he has started to forget what he does or says when he drinks. Lastly, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family is starting to display some disquiet about his drinking activities.
Not unlike Lenny's situation, Angie has been feeling dejected about things in her life and to come to grips with these feelings, she has been drinking more regularly than any time in the past two years. What is more, Angie has been getting more than a few migraine headaches and having dreadful hangovers after drinking. Lastly, Angie has been feeling much less active in the morning, she has been showing up late for work, and she has been getting some well-deserved criticism from her coworkers, friends, relatives, and family members about her excessive and hazardous drinking.
One Tuesday evening while watching TV, Angie and Lenny accidentally found a fascinating program about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This TV program was a real shock to Lenny and Angie because many of the alcohol facts that were listed gave them the impression that they were unshakably associated with more than a few of the drinking difficulties Lenny and Angie had been suffering through.
With thoughts of the TV program still running through her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcohol addiction signs they have been displaying could mean that they are alcohol dependent or possibly becoming alcohol dependent. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's inquiry and so he suggested that they make an appointment with one of the healthcare practitioners at the nearby drug and alcohol abuse treatment center to find out more about the seriousness of their drinking difficulties.
Strangely enough, even though their drinking behavior hadn't yet changed, it was obvious that Lenny and Angie were at the very least tackling their drinking problems, they were excited about finding out more about their drinking behavior, and they were interested in finding out how they could substantially decrease or get rid of the drinking-related issues that had started to escalate.
When Angie and Lenny went to bed that evening, they determined that the next morning, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility located in the next town. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to triumph over the alcohol-related issues that had emerged in their lives, they actually had the most revitalizing night's sleep they could bring to mind in the last seven months.
